WINTER HAVEN – After Neil Dave graduates from International Baccalaureate at Bartow High School next month, he's not sure what his major will be at the Georgia Institute of Technology. But what he can be sure about is he'll have $1,000 more in hand to help pay for his mathematics or computer science education and eventual career in software development. On Thursday night, Dave, 17, was one of thirteen Polk County high school seniors to win a 2023 Silver Garland Award. The award is the oldest, longest-running service award for high school seniors in Polk County, honoring high school seniors who use their talents to serve the community.
