WINTER HAVEN -- Winter Haven didn't simply want to beat Newsome, the Blue Devils wanted to make a statement. And they couldn't have made it any more emphatic. In fact, the game was basically over before the first quarter ended. Winter Haven scored the first 21 points of the first quarter and had a running clock early in the third quarter en route to a 76-42 victory over Newsome on Friday night in the Class 7A, Region 3 final. The victory sends Winter Haven (26-4) back to the state tournament for the second year in a row and for the seventh time in the 21st century.
